Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from the little accident I had in the back of my cage.. I didn't want her to know I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and make a difference in someone's life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to always be by her side!

I would promise to keep her safe!

I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes!

I was SO,SO fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved.

“Cupcake” is a most exquisite tortoiseshell feline whose owner reluctantly had to surrender her to our shelter. She is around eight in age, extremely friendly and at this time most lonesome for a real home once again. She also happens to be de-clawed.

Secret is a beautiful dilute tortoiseshell. She is a sweet girl. Extremely loveable and could lie on your lap for hours. Being an adult Secret has been over looked and has now been in the shelter since January 7th. Secret is ready for a forever home. Secret is spayed and is up to date on all routine vaccinations.

We have a huge house with a huge fenced in yard. We are looking for a female because my daughter really wants to dress her up in cute puppy dresses (my daughter is 15 and very responsible). MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED. and if you're sitting there thinking it would be too hard seeing all of the cute little faces knowing they're going to die, let me assure you of something. This is not a regular shelter where the animals have a time limit before euthanasia.

This is a LOW KILL shelter, which means that the animals housed there have a place to stay until adopted. They are not euthanized unless they're vicious or for possibly health reasons determined to be unadoptable.

The shelter is not a sad place where you will be reduced to tears and want to save any animal. You will actually enjoy being there, knowing you are making a difference for the animals.

Yes, you may witness witness animals who have been neglected & abused, but you will also witness the true love & care these animals receive from the staff & volunteers alike. And, when an adoption does take place, you will burst with pride knowing you helped to make it happen.

Sitting at home feeling sorry for the animals in shelters does nothing to help the situation.

Thank goodness, they called AADR and they came and got us. We’re looking for a furever home. We’ve been together all our lives and would like to stay together, but if we can’t……we’ll be ok as long as we have someone to love us and treat us right forever.

Right now we are living with big dogs, little dogs, boy dogs, girl dogs. We get along with everybody! We’re puppies. I’m the adventuresome one. I can entertain myself, checking things out, playing with toys, trying to get the other dogs to play or snuggle with me. I love to sleep in the big bed, but I’m ok in a crate too.

So, PLEASE, if you're sitting there wanting a reason to get out of the house a few hours a week, here is the perfect opportunity! Many of you tell me that it would break your heart to volunteer at a shelter and you're afraid you would wnat to take them all home. But, actually the opposite happens. Remember, this is a LOW KILL shelter. Animals are kept until adopted and are only euthanized if they're vicious or otherwise determined to be unadoptable perhaps for health reasons. You will bond with these animals and when an adoption takes place you feel so great knowing you helped that to happen. The animals truly depend on you to be their voice.

In addition to food for the cats & dogs----Bleach, Dawn dishwashing liquid, dishwasher detergent, liquid laundry detergent, & Pinesol are items that are used on a daily basis and they're ALWAYS in need of.

If you're looking to adopt, the workers & volunteers would love to show you some of the little darlings that are waiting for permanent homes. They're truly at capacity at the moment and the animals faces will just melt your heart!. Also,if you go to look at kittens or puppies, please don't overlook the adults. They're often the hardest to get adopted . Adults can still be playful and very loving; there are no house breaking issues to deal with and their temperment is already established. And, they often have a sixth sense--they seem to know they're being given a second chance and go out of their way to show you how much it is appreciated.

These pictures are of an adult cat I adopted At The Edgewater Shelter . His previous owners had surrendered him due to financial circumstances, but obviously he was very loved and well taken care of prior to that.. Look how comfortable he is here! Nothing like the nervous cat I first saw in a cage at the shelter.

I couldn't have asked for a better companion. Everyday he does something to surprise me. Making the bed is sooooo much more fun with him to help me! He's waiting at the door when I get home from work, very loving, plays fetch, watches Animal Planet ( no kidding), and sleeps curled up next to me at night. And, being an adult, he is already litter box trained and doesn't scratch or claw the furniture.

I am an individual foster/rescue parent that homes felines (kittens mostly), dogs/puppies and small animals. I have fostered/rescued other animals (lizards, turtles, exotics, ect) though those don't come through as much. I am looking for donations of bedding, food, toys and supplies of any kind. Please -no- donations in the form of money, just supplies. Anything is welcomed and is much appreciated! I can only go as far as Sanford towards Orlando and Deland towards Daytona and that also depends on the size of the donation. As I am running low on both money and supplies it would be greatly appreciated if these things could be dropped off. Also, if you have any yardsale leftovers that you are just going to throw away please contact me. We can come pick it up and use it in our montly fund raiser garage sale for the animals. I own a DJ and Sound company. (Weddings, Christmas parties, Anniversarys, Just for Fun, Birthdays) I have been in the business for fifteen years, I am very professional and have alot of experience.
