1979 MGB V8 conversion by Colin Coombs, RR dealer mechanic in Naples, Fl.
Completed about 1999 and sold to me in 2013 when the Coombs’ moved back to UK to
watch infant first grandkid. Coombs followed English conversion plans of Roger Williams.
Engine is a Rover Vitesse sedan 3.9 litre, 9.0 Cr, with Buick 4 bbl/Edelbrock-Weber carb,
and “through-the-fenderwell” headers which are hi-temp ceramic coated.
Transmission is an L-77 Rover 5 speed
Rear Axle is a low ratio MG-C unit with Limited Slip diff
and MGB axle shafts to match front end MGB bolt pattern.
Front end has MGC brake pads and cooling ducts from added front air dam.
Both ends have late MGB sway bars.
Wheels are TR6 5 ½’ by 15’ with 195/60 radial tires
Seats are Fiero with unused headrest speakers.
Steering wheel is MGB Limited Edition.
Speedo and 8 cyl Tach are Triumph Stag sourced.
Factory Hardtop, Gd condition Soft Top, and Tonneau cover.
Roll bar that fits just under both tops.
Low profile 15’ Saab 900 spare for added trunk space.
Fully inflated; not a deflated “compact spare.”
